The Smart PACS/MACS Checklist

The essential criteria — and the questions to ask any vendor — before committing to an imaging platform.

Multi-specialty MACS breadth

Can the platform extend past radiology to digital pathology, cardiology, dermatology and the operating theatre? Many vendors are radiology-only — look for true Multimedia Archiving (MACS).

All-inclusive predictability

Does the commercial model protect you from hidden charges? Look for site licenses covering unlimited users, modalities and future integrations.

Open integration

Does the viewer integrate contextually with your existing RIS, EHR (DPI) and LDAP/Active Directory to enable seamless Single Sign-On (SSO)?

Open AI orchestration

Does the system force you into a proprietary AI ecosystem, or offer an open, agnostic gateway (an AI-Box) that routes and colour-codes results in your native worklist?

Clinical ergonomics & usability

Is the viewer uncompromising? Ensure clinicians and specialists get the same diagnostic-grade tools with no performance lag.

Secure collaboration

Can you instantly share, trace or tele-interpret images across regional territories (GHT) and external networks — securely?

A useful rule of thumb

The most technically complex system isn't automatically the right one. For healthcare-IT and clinical leaders, usability, standards-based openness, responsive local support, and a truly unified clinical scope matter far more day-to-day than a long, unintegrated checklist of features.

Frequently asked questions

On-premise or cloud?
Both are valid, but they shouldn't lock you in. Telemis offers a robust, redundant on-premise architecture with the flexibility to extend archive or web-portal diffusion on the cloud.
We only do radiology today — why does multi-specialty (MACS) matter?
It is about future-proofing. Adding a MACS (Multimedia Archiving and Communication System) lets you extend imaging to dermatology, cardiology or ophthalmology — even capturing images from smartphones (via TM-Capture) — without buying a second system.
